The age old custom of going down on one knee and asking the woman to be yours for life is one of the most beautiful, treasured, hoped-for and dreaded moment for the man and the woman.

The man of course has to first choose the ring, buy it and then bring all his courage to life and ask.  The woman has to ponder the question and give her verdict on the request.

But why a ring?

Why not a book?
Why not an ear ring?

Some would say the ring connects to the heart.
Some say it is a sign to the rest of the world that the person now belongs to someone else and hence back off.

maybe we should have developed putting a feather in the headgear as a mark of letting the world know.

But the ring is what envelops the finger.
Just like the one who gave you that ring and just like the love you feel for each other.

The ring has no start and finish.  Love is eternal.

The ring does not get affected by everyday wear, the sun, the rain, the soap, as should your love.

And maybe, you get so accustomed to the ring that one day when you take it off, you feel incomplete. That for me would definitely embody love.

The ring then is the perfect manifestation of true love and the simple act of you letting someone put it on your finger, is a sign of acceptance and the awarding of a right.

The person is now allowed to change you, forever.

happy loving!
